Inflation is a factor, as well as the increased claim activity due to natural disasters and litigation. This presentation will share insights on how to properly prepare your clients for their P&C insurance renewals and share the importance of an annual audit.

About the Speaker: Michelle Hirsch is the Sr. Vice President and third generation family business owner of Brunswick Private Client. Michelle attended Penn State University for her undergraduate degree and  obtained her MBA from Case Western University. TOPIC #2: 2023 Social Security Updates
SPEAKER: Brandon P. Smith 

About the presentation: Brandon Smith, Social Security’s Public Affairs Specialist for the Greater Cleveland area, will be discussing the basics of eligibility for retirement, spousal and survivor benefits. Brandon will include any updated 2023 facts and figures regarding these benefits, including the new amounts for a quarter of coverages and the 2023 annual earnings limits. Brandon will also discuss the 2023 Medicare enrollment changes regarding the Initial and General Enrollment Periods.

About the speaker: Brandon Smith, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, joined the Social Security Administration in 2003. He started his Social Security career as a Claims Representative in the Middleburg Heights field office, specializing in Retirement, Survivors, Disability, and Health Insurance. In 2007, Brandon became the Public Affairs Specialist in the Greater Cleveland area. Brandon is the primary contact for media relations, outreach, and presentations for the agency in Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, and Geauga counties.

TOPIC #1: Secure 2.0 Act Overview & Impact

About the presentation: The Secure 2.0 Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Biden in late December 2022.  The Act builds on the Secure Act of 2019, with the goal of expanding retirement plan access and flexibility.  We will review the key provisions of Secure 2.0 and the impact to plan sponsors, participants, and plan advisors.

About the Speaker: Eric is a senior vice president for CBIZ Retirement Plan Services and is associated with CBIZ Investment Advisory Services as a financial advisor. Eric helps plan sponsors manage the personal liability associated with being a fiduciary to a qualified plan. He works with plan sponsors to help them meet their organization’s retirement plan goals. He provides consulting services to private and public companies, as well as not-for-profit organizations.  Through CBIZ IAS, Eric provides investment consulting and management to defined contribution and defined benefit plans, cash balance plans, endowments and foundations.

TOPIC #1: Self-Directed Retirement Accounts for Further Diversification

SPEAKER: Ryan Fischer

About the program: Are you and your clients seeking further diversification beyond stocks and bonds? If so, you will be interested to learn the benefits and features of a self-directed IRA/401k as a means to hold assets that can further diversify portfolios beyond traditional stocks and bonds, all while growing them in tax advantaged accounts. About the Speaker: For more than 25 years, David Seiger has focused his career on a commitment to preserving client’s assets and choice for care as they age. As a young attorney, David saw how a failure to plan for the cost of care can eat through a person’s assets, only to rely on family or Government assistance.  David pivoted his career to develop and insurance practice that focuses on protecting individuals and families at the most vulnerable point in their lives. A licensed agent, David is a graduate of Touro College in New York and the University of Baltimore School of Law.  He is the vice-president of Long Term Care insurance marketing and a Senior Health Specialist with the Berson-Sokol Agency, Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio.  David frequently writes articles and lectures about the importance of long term care insurance.

About the Program: Another year in the books, and we finally know what the tax regime looks like for 2022, we think! This presentation will focus on tax law changes for 2022 and how they will impact our clients. Depending on whether any legislation goes through, this may be the focus of the presentation. If no significant changes get done, then I will spend more time on some appropriate strategies for income and estate tax planning in 2022. Topics will likely include retirement planning in general, Roth IRA’s, donor advised funds, and opportunistic estate planning vehicles.

About the Speaker: Scott has nearly 30 years of experience working in the accounting and financial services industries, including 18 years focused on planning and tax compliance for high-net-worth individuals. He specializes in income and estate tax planning for individuals and has a tremendous amount of experience working with complex trusts, family partnerships and other entities from an estate planning perspective. Scott also has significant experience in assisting clients with their investment assets, including global asset allocation construction, investment selection and performance monitoring.

These changes will likely be a huge disruption in the college planning landscape that will require new strategies for your clients. There are distinct winners and losers with the new legislation.
